It’s so easy to be told what to protect your child from sexual violence but it can be incredibly difficult to apply it in real life moments. This workshop will provide parents and caregivers with foundational information around child sexual abuse and ways to protect the children in their lives. Participants will also engage in group activities and practices that will allow them to recognize areas of discomfort to work out in this brave space. These same activities are ones they can use with children and aims to increase their child’s protective factors.

The workshop will cover the following:

• Trauma 101
• CSA/SV 101
• Risk & Protective Factors
• Wall of Boulders
• Group Work

Learning objectives:

At the end of the training participants will be able to:

• Identify at least 3 risk factors for child sexual abuse
• Identify at least 3 factors that protect against child sexual abuse
• Practice at least 2 tools you can use with the children in your life

EBONY WILLIAMS, LMFT (She/Her) is a Black, queer, first-generation woman who is also a licensed marriage and family therapist, educator, social emotional healing arts instructor, and a trauma-informed yoga teacher. Ebony specializes in African-American family studies and is a trauma specialist who practices LGBTQIA+ affirming and culturally humble therapy. She has worked with children and families, adults, trauma survivors, and folks across the spectrum of mental health, identity, and experience. Ebony specializes in supporting survivors of sexual violence and intimate partner violence and as a parent of two and a CSA survivor, Ebony became founder of Cactus In Bloom to fill the gap in care for survivors who are family planning, perinatal, and parenting.
