SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Trauma-Informed Journalism
DESCRIPTION:Echo presents a training expressly for reporters\, editors and producers on the science of trauma. The training will examine the impact of trauma on the brain and body\, as well as the underlying biological and psychological processes that can help us make sense of survivor behavior. We provide practical tips and skills for implementing trauma science in the service of better stories and improved interactions with survivors. \nReporters are no strangers to interviewing trauma survivors\, but even the most seasoned journalists can sometimes struggle to understand a survivor’s reactions. Reporters may worry that they are causing further harm and feel ill-prepared and ill-equipped to navigate the trauma minefield. \nIn this training\, Echo’s executive director\, Louise Godbold\, draws on over a decade of work as a trauma educator\, as well as insights from her personal experience as a public survivor and that of the many MeToo survivors she has helped. Joining us will be many prominent journalists who have covered MeToo stories to share their own tips for working with trauma survivors and provide case studies for discussion. \nThis training is suitable for any journalist or editor who has some experience working with trauma survivors or who would like to know more. \n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nAt the end of this training you will be able to: \n\nList the principles of trauma-informed practice\nDescribe the impact of trauma on the body and brain\nName the four survival responses\nIdentify common trauma responses\nExplain the differences between trauma memory and regular memory\nUtilize tools for emotional regulation (for self and interviewee)\nPractice skills to avoid retraumatization\nImplement strategies for improved collaboration\nUse methods that contribute to the survivor’s healing and wellbeing\nApply techniques that support a survivor in telling their story\nProduce deeper\, richer and more compelling stories\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n REGISTER HERE\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Thursday\, May 28th\, 2026 | 8:30am-12:00pm PST\nCost: $150; $125 early bird (before 04/28/26)\nLocation: Live training via Zoom. SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Trauma-Informed Interviewing
DESCRIPTION:Does your job involve interviewing trauma survivors? \nIn the aftermath of trauma\, a survivor will probably have to recount what happened to them several times – to service providers\, to medical staff\, to counselors\, to law enforcement\, to lawyers\, and maybe to reporters. \nMany of these interviewers have not been trained on how to make the encounter less stressful for themselves or the survivor. Interviewers may not understand how a traumatized body and brain react and may become frustrated or misinterpret what they are seeing\, leading to the survivor feeling dismissed or judged. \nThe goal of many survivor interviews is to obtain a “coherent narrative”\, which is essential not only for reporting but also for helping the survivor process the trauma. However given the way trauma impacts memory\, without some support and structure\, a concise\, chronological narrative might be the last thing the survivor’s traumatized brain can produce. \nEcho’s new training\, Trauma-informed Interviewing\, gives you a brief overview of the impact of trauma as well as practical tips on how to support a trauma survivor during an interview. We will be looking at how trauma impacts memory and equip you with skills to help create a narrative that is clear\, comprehensible\, and most importantly\, healing for the survivor. \n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nIntegrate emotional regulation strategies for self and survivor\nIdentify the signs of re-experiencing & offer strategies for support\nDescribe common trauma responses\nLearn strategies for offering choice\nIdentify some common pitfalls in relating to survivors\nExplain the importance of survivor-driven vs. survivor-focused approaches\nEmploy strategies that increase survivor resilience\nDifferentiate the characteristics of trauma memory versus regular memory\nUtilize tools for supporting survivors in building a coherent narrative\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Thursday\, June 4\, 2026 | 8:30am-12:00pm PST\nCost: $85; $70 early bird (until 05/04/26)\nLocation: Live training via Zoom. Zoom link and extra details will be sent out a week prior to the training date.\nContinuing Education: 3 CE credits are available for an additional $30. SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Healthy Brains\, Happy Lives: Promoting Optimal Brain Development
DESCRIPTION:This 4-hour workshop\, an introduction to NeuroDevelopmental Movement® with Bette Lamont\, is a stand-alone training for those who seek skills to support children to move through and fulfill the Developmental Sequence. \nWhat is the Developmental Sequence? \nHuman beings are programmed genetically to fulfill a sequence of developmental movement that starts in utero and results in the ability to walk. Each stage of the sequence stimulates the next phase of growth. Children born with neurodevelopmental challenges (such as brain injuries\, strokes\, or toxic exposures in utero) may need to work longer and harder to build stability at various stages of the Developmental Sequence. Gaps in the Development Sequence (for example\, when babies don’t get sufficient opportunity to crawl because they spend a lot of time in strollers or “walkers”) may result in not only physical but also behavioral\, physical\, psychological\, and social challenges \nNDM® is based on an understanding of the Development Sequence and can be used with children or adults with any kind of neurobiological or central nervous system injury or delay. NDM uses an assessment of seven developmental levels\, including reflexes\, movement\, and sensory development\, to identify challenges. Gaps and injuries are addressed by replicating the activities that a neurologically typical child instinctively utilizes to integrate the brain. \n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nThe skills gained from this workshop can be used in preschool settings\, dance classes\, daycare centers\, and at home to support individuals move through and fulfill the Developmental Sequence. \nAt the end of this training\, participants will be able to – \n\nIllustrate the process by which the brain integrates itself in the first months of life and identify how a rich sensory/motor environment in these months lays the foundation for full brain integration over the lifespan.\nDistinguish key sensory and motor milestones or normal development at seven different levels of the central nervous system.\nExplain the consequences of any form or degree of trauma or developmental interruption as they affect learning\, social\, attention and physical skills.\nTransform environments to enhance the normal neurodevelopmental process in the classroom.\nImplement specific motor activities that prompt brain organization in infants.\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n REGISTER HERE\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Thursday\, September 10th\, 2026 | 9:00am-1:30pm PST\nCost: $85; $70 early bird (before 8/10/26)\nLocation: Live training via Zoom.
