SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Trauma-Informed Interviewing
DESCRIPTION:Does your job involve interviewing trauma survivors? \nIn the aftermath of trauma\, a survivor will probably have to recount what happened to them several times – to service providers\, to medical staff\, to counselors\, to law enforcement\, to lawyers\, and maybe to reporters. \nMany of these interviewers have not been trained on how to make the encounter less stressful for themselves or the survivor. Interviewers may not understand how a traumatized body and brain react and may become frustrated or misinterpret what they are seeing\, leading to the survivor feeling dismissed or judged. \nThe goal of many survivor interviews is to obtain a “coherent narrative”\, which is essential not only for reporting but also for helping the survivor process the trauma. However given the way trauma impacts memory\, without some support and structure\, a concise\, chronological narrative might be the last thing the survivor’s traumatized brain can produce. \nEcho’s new training\, Trauma-informed Interviewing\, gives you a brief overview of the impact of trauma as well as practical tips on how to support a trauma survivor during an interview. We will be looking at how trauma impacts memory and equip you with skills to help create a narrative that is clear\, comprehensible\, and most importantly\, healing for the survivor. \n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nIntegrate emotional regulation strategies for self and survivor\nIdentify the signs of re-experiencing & offer strategies for support\nDescribe common trauma responses\nLearn strategies for offering choice\nIdentify some common pitfalls in relating to survivors\nExplain the importance of survivor-driven vs. survivor-focused approaches\nEmploy strategies that increase survivor resilience\nDifferentiate the characteristics of trauma memory versus regular memory\nUtilize tools for supporting survivors in building a coherent narrative\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Thursday\, June 4\, 2026 | 8:30am-12:00pm PST\nCost: $85; $70 early bird (until 05/04/26)\nLocation: Live training via Zoom. SUMMARY:IN-PERSON | Applied Neuroscience for Trauma Recovery and Resilience: A Brain Partnership Approach
DESCRIPTION:This full-day training integrates applied neuroscience\, somatic regulation\, and compassion-based neuroplasticity to support clinicians and community members in understanding how the brain and nervous system adapt under traumatic and chronic stress. Grounded in Brain Partnership principles \, the workshop examines how survival-driven neural patterns influence emotion\, perception\, and behavior—and how neuroscience-informed practices can help update those patterns toward safety\, connection\, and resilience. \nParticipants will learn to work collaboratively with the nervous system rather than attempting to override protective responses. The training emphasizes accessible\, evidence-informed tools that support regulation\, restore agency\, and strengthen resilience in both personal healing and supportive roles with others. Whether attending for clinical application\, personal understanding\, or community-based support\, participants will leave with practical\, brain-based strategies to reduce overwhelm\, stabilize stress responses\, and foster sustainable emotional well-being. \nKey Takeaways: \n\nLearn how stress and trauma shape the nervous system—and how safety and connection begin rewiring it.\nPractice somatic micro-interventions that calm activation and support grounded\, present-moment awareness.\nBuild self-compassion skills that reduce shame\, soften reactivity\, and support healing from within.\nUtilize real-time regulation tools to shift from overwhelm to clarity and choice—building neurobiologically based personal empowerment.\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Thursday\, March 26\, 2026 | 9am-4:30pm PST\nCost: $125; $95 early bird (before 02/26/26)\nLocation: IN-PERSON The California Endowment\, 1000 N. SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Healthy Brains\, Happy Lives: Promoting Optimal Brain Development
DESCRIPTION:This 4-hour workshop\, an introduction to NeuroDevelopmental Movement® with Bette Lamont\, is a stand-alone training for those who seek skills to support children to move through and fulfill the Developmental Sequence. \nWhat is the Developmental Sequence? \nHuman beings are programmed genetically to fulfill a sequence of developmental movement that starts in utero and results in the ability to walk. Each stage of the sequence stimulates the next phase of growth. Children born with neurodevelopmental challenges (such as brain injuries\, strokes\, or toxic exposures in utero) may need to work longer and harder to build stability at various stages of the Developmental Sequence. Gaps in the Development Sequence (for example\, when babies don’t get sufficient opportunity to crawl because they spend a lot of time in strollers or “walkers”) may result in not only physical but also behavioral\, physical\, psychological\, and social challenges \nNDM® is based on an understanding of the Development Sequence and can be used with children or adults with any kind of neurobiological or central nervous system injury or delay. NDM uses an assessment of seven developmental levels\, including reflexes\, movement\, and sensory development\, to identify challenges. Gaps and injuries are addressed by replicating the activities that a neurologically typical child instinctively utilizes to integrate the brain. \n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nThe skills gained from this workshop can be used in preschool settings\, dance classes\, daycare centers\, and at home to support individuals move through and fulfill the Developmental Sequence. \nAt the end of this training\, participants will be able to – \n\nIllustrate the process by which the brain integrates itself in the first months of life and identify how a rich sensory/motor environment in these months lays the foundation for full brain integration over the lifespan.\nDistinguish key sensory and motor milestones or normal development at seven different levels of the central nervous system.\nExplain the consequences of any form or degree of trauma or developmental interruption as they affect learning\, social\, attention and physical skills.\nTransform environments to enhance the normal neurodevelopmental process in the classroom.\nImplement specific motor activities that prompt brain organization in infants.\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n REGISTER HERE\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Thursday\, February 6th\, 2025 | 8:30am-1:00pm PST\nCost: $85; $55 early bird (before 1/31/25)\nLocation: Live training via Zoom. SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Empowerment for Survivors of Domestic Violence
DESCRIPTION:There are many trainings on domestic violence for professionals but relatively few for domestic violence survivors. At Echo\, we believe it is important to provide information on trauma to survivors as well as the professionals who serve them. We believe that for survivor healing\, we must position the survivor as an equal partner in their own care and that anyone in a supporting role must leave room for survivor empowerment. \nThe trainer\, Karen Gonzalez\, has experience both as a domestic violence survivor and as a professional working in domestic violence/human trafficking services. In addition to the expertise gained in her professional capacity\, she can also speak with authority about the survivor experience and is a strong advocate for survivor empowerment. \nThe target audience for this training is domestic violence survivors and any professional who is willing to learn from the survivor perspective. \nAt the end of the training you will be able to: \n\nExplain the physical\, emotional\, and psychological effects of trauma\nIdentify common responses to trauma and recognize the lasting impact of trauma on your life\nList the principles of TIC and use that knowledge to set expectations about the care you should receive\nDescribe domestic violence dynamics\, including red flags and warning signs.\nIllustrate the complexities of power and control dynamics through tools like the Power and Control Wheel\nIdentify common triggers\nExplain the concept of re-traumatization\nDevelop strategies to provide psychological safety and for emotional regulation\nAdvocate for the importance of respecting survivors’ autonomy and choices\nPractice effective communication\, empathy\, and self-care\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Tuesday\, November 19th\, 2024 | 10am-2:30pm PST\nCost: $55\nLocation: Live training via Zoom.
\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nIntegrate emotional regulation strategies for self and survivor\nIdentify the signs of re-experiencing & offer strategies for support\nDescribe common trauma responses\nLearn strategies for offering choice\nIdentify some common pitfalls in relating to survivors\nExplain the importance of survivor-driven vs. survivor-focused approaches\nEmploy strategies that increase survivor resilience\nDifferentiate the characteristics of trauma memory versus regular memory\nUtilize tools for supporting survivors in building a coherent narrative\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Thursday\, October 17\, 2024 | 8:30am-11:30am PST\nCost: $55\nLocation: Live training via Zoom.
\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nIntegrate emotional regulation strategies for self and survivor\nIdentify the signs of re-experiencing & offer strategies for support\nDescribe common trauma responses\nLearn strategies for offering choice\nIdentify some common pitfalls in relating to survivors\nExplain the importance of survivor-driven vs. survivor-focused approaches\nEmploy strategies that increase survivor resilience\nDifferentiate the characteristics of trauma memory versus regular memory\nUtilize tools for supporting survivors in building a coherent narrative\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Wednesday\, May 22\, 2024 | 8:30am-11:30am PST\nCost: $55\nLocation: Live training via Zoom. SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Trauma Responsive Play
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that adult-child play creates a life-long template for emotional resilience? \nIt’s how we play with children – not how much – that gives them a natural advantage in coping with childhood stressors and builds confident\, competent\, creative thinkers who are better prepared to step up to life’s curveballs. Through play\, children learn how to stay calm in the face of difficulties\, observe and describe their emotions\, try on flexible perspectives\, act on their own initiative\, and experiment with new solutions until the problem is solved. \nIn this interactive training parents and professionals will learn how to support children in developing the brainpower to counteract everyday stress as well as extreme forms of trauma – and the challenging behaviors that sometimes arise out of these survival moments. \nJoin us to learn key strategies for boosting a child’s emotional immune system so they can navigate the challenges of growing up feeling brave\, optimistic\, and solution-focused. \nTopics covered: \n· The neuroscience of play\n· The research connecting socially engaged play and resilience\n· How playful attunement builds brains from the bottom up\n· Strategies to activate and shape a child’s brain\n· Self-regulation strategies for the adult \n\n \n \n \n	\n \n Download Flyer\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDate: Thursday\, May 2nd\, 2024 | 8am-12:30pm PST\nCost: $55\nLocation: Live training via Zoom.
This approach has benefits for the professional as well\, since we believe that the survivor’s perspective is paramount and that understanding and responding to the trauma survivor’s experience is the heart of trauma-informed care. \nAt the end of the training you will be able to: \n\nExplain the physical\, emotional\, and psychological effects of trauma\nIdentify common responses to trauma and recognize the lasting impact of trauma on your life\nList the principles of TIC and use that knowledge to set expectations about the care you should receive\nDescribe domestic violence dynamics\, including red flags and warning signs.\nIllustrate the complexities of power and control dynamics through tools like the Power and Control Wheel\nIdentify common triggers\nExplain the concept of re-traumatization\nDevelop strategies to provide psychological safety and for emotional regulation\nAdvocate for the importance of respecting survivors’ autonomy and choices\nPractice effective communication\, empathy\, and self-care\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Thursday\, April 25\, 2024 | 8am-12:30pm PST\nCost: $55\nLocation: Live training via Zoom. SUMMARY:VIRTUAL: Trauma-Informed Mindfulness: Working with Youth
DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness has increased in popularity and become more mainstream in recent years\, as a result of mounting scientific evidence proving its effectiveness in managing stress\, improving mental clarity\, increasing compassion and belonging\, and enhancing sleep. Yet\, if you use or plan to use mindfulness in your work\, you should also be aware of the serious responsibility that comes with mind-body practices and\, in addition to all the benefits\, any possible adverse effects. \nMindfulness can be both a useful emotional regulation tool AND a potential stressor for people who have been impacted by trauma. For children as well as adults\, the idea of going inwards when our brains are full of memories and thoughts we struggle to manage can actually make us more agitated. Meditation allows space for unprocessed pain and traumatic experiences to surface for people who have a trauma history. However\, with proper guidance and resources\,  this surfacing can allow for deeper healing and integration\, especially if accompanied by practical ways to manage intrusive thoughts and cultivate greater peace of mind and body. \nMindfulness teacher and Echo parent educator\, Laurie Cousins\, has designed this training specifically for parents\, teachers\, and any other adult who works with children. She will share techniques that assist in calming the survival brain and nervous system so that even children who have experienced trauma can enjoy the benefits of mindfulness. \nJoin us at the FEB 5 training to learn how trauma-informed mindfulness can help the children (young people) in your life build resilience and improve overall health. \n————————– \nThis experiential training is designed for anyone who works with students\, families\, and communities and wants to incorporate mindfulness-based practices in a safe\, playful\, and non-harming way. You will learn about trauma from a neurobiological lens\, how to manage traumatic stress during periods of practice\, and how to incorporate trauma-informed care principles when guiding participants\, all while exploring a variety of practices for different age groups. As a result of this training\, you and those you work with will be able to enjoy mind-body practices that can lead to improved overall health\, resilience\, and self-regulation\, and support trauma recovery. \nThis training will explore: \n\nAn introduction to the basics of secular mindfulness and meditation\nBenefits and potential challenges when practicing mindfulness for youth and adults \nHow unintegrated trauma or toxic stress can impact the nervous system\nThe neurobiological impact of being overstimulated with social media and technology \nThe fundamentals of trauma-informed practices\, modifications\, and skills\nHow mindfulness and meditation can decrease impulsivity and increase tolerance and compassion\nHow to share and guide basic trauma-informed mindfulness practices for children and teens\n\n\n \n \n \n	\n \n \nDetails\nDates: Monday\, February 5\, 2024 | 8am-12:30pm PST\nCost: $55\nLocation: Live training via Zoom. Zoom link and extra details will be sent out a week prior to the training date.\nContinuing Education: 4 CE credits are available for an additional $30. Part of her education and training include the mindful centers of UCLA & UCSD and she teaches their signature evidence-based programs of Mindful Awareness Practices and Mindful Self-Compassion. Laurie is mentored by Susan Kaiser Greenland and a lead teacher of the International Inner Kids Collaborative and enjoys teaching mindfulness in education for students\, families\, and faculty throughout Los Angeles and all over the country. \nSpecializing in the field of trauma and addiction recovery\, in her private practice and teaching she focuses on integration\, resiliency building\, and somatic-centered healing as a certified practitioner of the Trauma Resource Institute and compassion training through Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness.
